Salem B-17/B-24 Tour - August 24, 2022

A small group of MBCA members attended a tour of the traveling WWII bombers in Salem, OR. The tour included seeing these two flightworthy units and the disassembled unit undergoing the refurbishment process. The "in-works" unit was the one that used to be on a stand at a restaurant and gas station in Milwaulkie, OR. Although the airframe has very few hours on it, the oxidation and corrosion from birds and long exposure to the weather have required dismantling and rebuilding the unit pretty much from the ground up. The engineering construction inside is intriguing to see. The rebuild is expected to be completed by 2032.
